Creating an Appointment Type

Setting up a new appointment type takes just a few minutes. The creation wizard walks you through the essentials — name, description, duration, and who handles the work — so you can get your service bookable as quickly as possible.

Before you start

Before creating an appointment type, it helps to have a few things ready:

  • Service name — What do your customers call this service? Use language they'd recognize (e.g., "AC Tune-Up" rather than "HVAC-PM-001").
  • Typical duration — How long does the average appointment take?
  • Who does the work — Which team (or which people) will handle these appointments?

Starting the wizard

  1. Navigate to Setup > Appointment Types in the sidebar.
  2. Click the button to create a new appointment type.
  3. The Create Appointment Type wizard opens, guiding you through three steps.

Step 1: Name and description

Name — Enter a clear, customer-facing name for the service. This is what customers see on your booking page, so keep it simple and descriptive.

  • Good: "Roof Inspection," "Furnace Repair," "Lawn Mowing"
  • Avoid: Internal codes or abbreviations your customers won't understand

Description (optional) — Add a short description explaining what the service includes. This appears below the name on your booking page and helps customers confirm they're booking the right thing.

Example: "A thorough inspection of your roof to identify damage, wear, and potential leaks. Includes a written report with photos and repair recommendations."

Step 2: Set duration

Pick how long this appointment typically takes from the preset options (like 30 minutes or 1 hour).

Don't overthink this one — you can configure variable duration ranges later. If the length of the job depends on details like square footage, set that up afterward with Duration Rules and the duration range in Scheduling Settings.

Step 3: Assign team

Choose who will handle these appointments:

  • Pick an existing team — Select from the teams you've already set up, or narrow down to specific people.
  • Create a new team — Name a new team and add people to it right from the wizard, including inviting someone new by email.

Only eligible people are offered time slots when this service is booked, so make sure the right crew is assigned. You can refine this anytime in Team Eligibility.

After creation

Once you complete the wizard, your new appointment type is created and ready to configure further. Open it from the list to fine-tune:

These settings are all optional — your appointment type works with just the basics. Add more as your needs grow.
