Adding and Editing Customers

Your customer list grows naturally as people book through your booking page or reach out with requests, but you can also add and update customers manually at any time. This article covers creating, editing, and archiving customers.

Creating a customer manually

  1. Navigate to Customers in the left sidebar.
  2. Click the Add Customer button in the upper-right corner. The Create Customer dialog opens.
  3. Fill in the customer's details:
FieldRequiredNotes
First NameYes
Last NameYes
EmailNoUsed to match future bookings to this customer and for email notifications
PhoneNoUsed for matching and SMS notifications
Business NameNoHandy for commercial clients — shows on the customer's detail page
AddressNoStart typing and pick from the suggestions — see below
  1. Click Create Customer. Driive saves the record and takes you straight to the new customer's detail page.

Important: The address field uses address autocomplete. Typing alone isn't enough — you must select an address from the suggestions so Driive stores a verified, complete address (used for service-area checks and drive-time scheduling). If you've typed something but haven't picked a suggestion, the dialog won't submit until you select one or clear the field.

Note: Driive won't let you create a duplicate. If a customer with the same email or phone number already exists in your organization, you'll see an error instead of a second record — search the list for the existing customer and update them instead.

Customers created automatically

When someone books through your booking page, submits a web form, or calls in and Dot logs a request, Driive automatically creates a customer using the information they provide — name, email, phone, and address.

If a customer with a matching email or phone number already exists, Driive links the new request to that existing customer instead of creating a duplicate. It never overwrites the details you've saved — updating a customer's info is always an explicit edit by your team.

Editing a customer

You edit customers from the Details tab of their detail page.

  1. Open the customer from the customer list (or jump to them from an appointment or request).
  2. On the Details tab, update any field in the Contact card — first and last name, business name, email, phone, or address.
  3. As soon as you change something, Save Changes and Discard buttons appear in the toolbar.
  4. Click Save Changes to keep your edits, or Discard to reset the form back to the saved values.

Note: Just like the create dialog, an edited address must be confirmed by picking one of the autocomplete suggestions. Until you do, Driive shows "Select an address from the suggestions to confirm." and disables saving.

Unsaved-changes protection

If you try to navigate away with unsaved edits, Driive stops you with a dialog so nothing is lost — you can save your changes, discard them, or stay on the page. The same protection kicks in if you change the customer's status while you have unsaved edits.

Archiving a customer

There's no delete in Driive — customers are archived instead, so your appointment history always stays intact.

  1. Open the customer's detail page.
  2. Click the menu in the toolbar and choose Archive Customer.
  3. Confirm in the dialog. The customer "will be hidden from the customer list, but you can restore them anytime."

Archived customers keep all of their details, tags, notes, and appointment history.

Restoring an archived customer

  1. On the customer list, turn on the Show archived toggle. Archived customers appear with an Archived badge.
  2. Open the archived customer.
  3. Click the menu and choose Unarchive Customer. They return to your active list immediately.
